Washington, Oregon, more than two dozen Native American and Alaska Native tribes and cultural groups from the Northwest are suing the federal government to stop the sale of the National Archives building in Seattle, a plan that would force the relocation of millions of invaluable historical records to California and Missouri. The government is planning to sell the vast warehouse under a law aimed at unloading excess federal property, but the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court on Monday says the building is anything but “excess.” It contains irreplaceable documents dating to the 1840s and is used all the time for research about everything from tribal history to Japanese internment during World War II and fur seal hunts on remote Alaskan islands.

One of the first acts of our new House of Representatives might be to cancel Mom. On Sunday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Democratic majority proposed to eliminate “father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister” and all other language deemed insufficiently “gender-inclusive” from House rules. They would be replaced with terms like “parent, child, sibling, parent’s sibling” and so on. “Mother” — among the most important concepts in human life — would be erased from the lexicon of the US House of Representatives. It’s important to recognize how radical this is. And no, it isn’t akin to updating federal law to replace “policeman” with “police officer,” a rational corrective sought by feminists for generations.

The German-language media has published a number of materials on the reality of the Church situation in Ukraine and in world Orthodoxy that has arisen due to Patriarch Bartholomew’s anti-canonical creation of the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” (OCU). In particular, statements from the UN, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the canonical Ukrainian Church’s representation to the European international organizations on the violation of the right of the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the largest confession in Ukraine, widely resonated in the world media, reports the Union of Orthodox Journalists.

On Sunday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson raised the prospect of introducing tougher COVID-19 restrictions in Britain, stressing "the whole country is fully reconciled to that". UK Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has urged Boris Johnson to impose a third national lockdown in England within the next 24 hours in order to contain a growing spike in COVID-19 infections.

The COVID-19 pandemic was one of the topics that grabbed global headlines throughout last year and now that the world enters a new decade, the issue will almost certainly remain high on international radar, according to retired US lawmaker Newt Gingrich. In an opinion piece published by Fox News on Monday, former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich gave his thoughts on "what may come over the next 10 years both at home and abroad". First and foremost, he predicted the next ten years will see China "truly" emerging as a great power that will "directly" compete with the US "for global supremacy".  ... Gingrich also suggested that "the potential" of the COVID-19 pandemic will be another "big question" of the next decade. Referring to the pandemic as "a black swan event", the author asserted that "people who think life will get back to normal by the summer are sorely mistaken".
