Antifa is a foreign-import insurgency to overthrow the US constitution, Center panelists agree
Antifa is a foreign imported insurgency devoted to overthrowing the United States Constitution, three Center panelists conclude. Its organized violence today is along the same formula as insurgent violence has always been, with the only difference being the lack of a physical command-and-control structure.

THE DESECRATION OF ST JOHN’S
Many of us have encountered the frequently quoted phrase, “When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.” But this prophetic statement has never rung more true than on June 1st, 2020, when United States forces used tear gas and other violent methods to clear out St John’s Episcopal Church yard so that President Trump could stage a photo-op in front of it, Bible in hand.

The Deep Historical Background of the Tiananmen Square Massacre
China is often described as the next superpower to top America within the next few decades. At first glance, such an assertion makes sense. The country’s vast geography, natural resources, rich history, and tech-savvy populace puts it in a position to thrive in the 21st century. However, China’s rise as a superpower is not one of an overnight success, nor is it filled with pretty rainbows. Indeed, China is one of the world’s longest-lasting civilizations, with cultural and political traditions that have been passed down to succeeding generations effortlessly. With such a vast history, China had gone through its own zeniths and nadirs. As is the nature of any civilization. However, China’s modern history has been a roller-coaster ride to say the least. Historically, Tiananmen Square held great significance in Chinese politics. It was the place where the May Fourth Movement of 1919 occurred, when students’ protests aired grievances with the Chinese government’s tepid response to the Treaty of Versailles, which awarded Japan territories in the Shandong province. This movement helped jumpstart the Chinese Communist and Nationalist movements respectively. Fast forward 30 years, the Proclamation of the People’s Republic of China by Mao Zedong on October 1, 1949, took place on Tiananmen Square as well. This marked the end of the Chinese Communist Revolution (1945-1949) and ushered in the Communist Party’s dominance over Chinese politics. In 1989, student protesters sought to use this same square as their platform to make history by demanding the introduction of basic civil liberties—such as free speech and the right to peacefully assemble against the government—concepts which were unheard of throughout China’s long political history. In the fateful month of April 1989, they took to the streets in protest. Indeed, these students made history, but things didn't go as planned for them.

Extreme Environmentalist Ideology Shouldn’t Undercut CDC’s Coronavirus Guidance
The American people must be able to trust the accuracy of public health information disseminated by the federal government, especially during the coronavirus. That’s why a reported change by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of its guidance on COVID-19 for employers regarding commuters is very disturbing. This conflating of science, policy, and ideology is nothing new.

No, We Don’t Really Need a New New Deal
Now that we’re facing unemployment figures that rival even the Great Depression, some pundits are urging a return to the policies of President Franklin Roosevelt. Our economic crisis is serious, but it is concentrated overwhelmingly in one sector—leisure and hospitality. The safest way back to normal is to normalize, but to do so as wisely and with as much attention to specific areas and needs as possible.

Potential Long-Term Economic Consequences of the Federal Response to the COVID-19 Lockdowns
Government imposition of widespread lockdowns in response to the COVID-19 pandemic have produced profound economic dislocations. Congress has sought to mitigate this economic damage by enacting a series of bills that have raised federal spending, deficits, and debt to extraordinary levels. Current deficits and debt are instructive, but insufficient, measures of a government’s financial sustainability. There are, however, ominous signs in these current levels. Unlike in previous eras, federal fiscal policy—largely because of health care entitlement spending—has not normalized after recent economic recessions. The Federal Reserve has doubled down on the unprecedented monetary policy that it instituted after the Great Recession of 2008, and never unwound. This combination of exotic fiscal and monetary policy is moving the federal government into dangerous waters. Policymakers can make a favorable outcome more likely by reconsidering the widespread use of lockdowns, pausing before authorizing more COVID-19 spending, normalizing monetary policy, and reforming entitlement programs.

Amid the Chaos, Meeting the Challenge of Saving Our Streets
What makes dealing with the unrest difficult is the complexity of what’s happening on our streets. The president was right to designate Antifa a domestic terrorist organization. It’s time to stop the squabbling and start safeguarding the communities and homes of everyone.

Houses of Worship Play an Essential Role in Hope and Healing
COVID-19 is taking a toll on Americans’ minds, hearts, and souls. Houses of worship can play an essential role in treating these problems. Research reveals a strong linkage between faith and mental health. The Founders protected religious freedom not just so that we could worship as individuals, but so that we could practice our faith in community with others.

EPA’s Section 401 Rule Respects Federalism While Addressing State Abuses
Right at the start of the statute, Congress made it clear that states are expected to take the leading role in addressing water pollution. States must focus on water quality requirements only and not use the process to achieve other state objectives, such as addressing climate change. As the United States searches for solutions that will help jumpstart the economy in light of the pandemic, unnecessary governmental obstacles need to be addressed.

Turkey's COVID-19 Response
Ankara's handling of the COVID-19 outbreak has left Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan falling behind the wheel, also revealing competition among advisors inside his presidential palace (known as Saray in Turkish) in Ankara. Meanwhile, popular initiatives to battle the pandemic, launched by recently-elected opposition mayors of key cities, including Istanbul and Ankara, have allowed these politicians to emerge as problem-solvers in the country.

Iran’s COVID-19 Response And U.S. Policy
Iran is the most hard-hit country in the Middle East by COVID-19. Regime leaders were slow to respond as other nations were taking preliminary steps to slow the spread. On several occasions, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani even dismissed the severity of the virus. When it finally hit the holy city of Qom on 19 February 2020, Rouhani still would not decree a quarantine. Worse yet, Iran held its parliamentary elections on 21 February 2020 even after several COVID-19 deaths were confirmed. While many have cited corruption as the reason for low voter turnout, it could very well be due to the general public being wary of the virus having followed the news from Wuhan. Iran has consistently meddled with its own elections and this certainly would not be the first election where regime officials would be accused of corruption. But fear from the virus could also have kept voters away from the polls.

I went on a walk last night because I was feeling frustrated with the world. Stopping to talk with a neighbor about the recent chaos we’ve witnessed close at hand, we realized we shared this frustration. We both saw that major factions in the debate of the hour had serious grievances, but each also had serious blind spots they couldn’t overcome. Unfortunately, few in the cacophony of voices seem able to step back and view or discuss these differences objectively. Perhaps that was why my neighbor and I found our conversation so refreshing. Perhaps that’s why I also found the results of a recent Pew poll on party identification so encouraging.

Choir Is Dangerous
A church choir traditionally is a group of people standing in a tight bunch, all striving to sing loudly enough to be heard over the organ by worshipers in the back pew. A singing chorister expels a lot more air than a person having a conversation. It’s not just a theoretical concern. Choir rehearsals and performances in March appear to have spread the virus in Europe and America. Choir directors and members around the country have been coming to grips with the realization that because of the pandemic, an activity they love may not resume for a long, long time.

Opinion: China Doesn’t Want a New World Order. It Wants This One.
China is in the midst of a fierce battle to salvage its reputation. Under fire for their part in the pandemic and reproached for their move to assert control over Hong Kong, the country’s officials are in firefighting mode. Their approach has two parts. First, sell the China story — emphasizing its success in the fight against the coronavirus and glossing over its initial errors. Second, attack those who seek to tarnish the country’s image. President Xi Jinping has left this battle to his subordinates. As the United States falters and the world spins into crisis, he has a bigger campaign to occupy him: taking over the international institutions, like the World Health Organization and the United Nations, that manage the world. ... Contrary to speculation, China has always said it is not seeking to overthrow the global order. We should listen. Why would China go to the trouble of capsizing the global order when it can simply take it over, whole and intact?

Merkel and the EU Trapped between China and the U.S.
Tensions between the U.S. and China are on the rise, with Germany and Europe stuck in the middle. German Chancellor Angela Merkel would like to find a solution, but plenty of hurdles stand in the way. She wants the summit to take place no matter what. Last Wednesday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a video conference with political group leaders from the European Parliament to discuss Germany's upcoming European Council presidency, which begins in July. For six months, Berlin will be setting the agenda for the European Union, and it has long been clear that Merkel views China as the top foreign policy priority. Indeed, she has planned a large summit in Leipzig from Sept. 13-15, to be attended by heads of state and government from the EU along with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Never before in the history of the bloc have all 27 EU leaders conferred as a group with a foreign head of state. And now, the first ever such consultation will not be with the president of the United States - the NATO partner and guarantor of European security – but with the president of the authoritarian People's Republic of China.

Sue Lani Madsen: Gatherings offer the world guidance about a peaceful way forward
Have we become a nation of bystanders? And what makes some people stop watching and start acting? A week ago, when Pastor Jon Schrock, father of nine, started a new ministry called The Radical Pulpit, he had no idea how quickly it was going to be pressed into use. His vision was providing a place to discuss touchy and potentially explosive issues in American society. When the touchiest issue in American politics burst into literal flames after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Kitara Johnson could not stand by either. She is the mother of five, a U.S. Army veteran – and the catalyst for a Declare Yourself night on Tuesday, giving young people a microphone and an opportunity for their voices to be heard. “Tuesday night was Kitara’s brainchild,” Schrock said. He brought his sound equipment from Hope Baptist Church in Airway Heights to Riverfront Park’s Red Wagon, other moms and dads pitched in to organize food, and the first Declare Yourself night was born.
