Upscale Restaurant Chain Goes Bust, Blaming ‘Progressive’ Wage Laws
Progressive wage policies helped force upscale eatery operator Restaurants Unlimited Inc. into bankruptcy, according to court documents filed Sunday. The company, which operates 35 restaurants ranging from fine dining to “polished casual” eateries, including Henry’s Tavern, Stanford’s and Kincaid’s, filed for Chapter 11 protection in Delaware on Sunday. Minimum wage hikes, two disappointing restaurant openings and consumers shunning casual dining are to blame for the bankruptcy filing, Chief Restructuring Officer David Bagley said in court papers.

The Bystander Effect: Myth or Fact?
Research into the bystander effect began in earnest after the brutal rape and murder of Kitty Genovese in 1964. The psychology profession has maintained that the bystander effect is a common issue and is supposedly bolstered by decades of scientific experimentation. However, new research suggests it just might be a total myth.

Sex, gender and marriage in the C of E
Near the beginning of each meeting of General Synod, there is a session called Questions, where any member can put any question to any part of the Church. It is often interesting, and sometimes controversial, as it allows members to ask the awkward questions that some might wish to avoid. In this Synod, the question that caught the headlines is one that we never got on to: Miss Prudence Dailey (Oxford) to ask the Chair of the House of Bishops: Q86 "Given that the Church of England’s teaching about marriage is that it is a lifelong and exclusive union between one man and one woman, if one person in a couple undergoes gender transition, has consideration been given as to whether they are still married according to the teaching of the Church of England?"
