An Ottawa architect is planning a new kind of residence for seniors—an intentional community, to be built on redeveloped church property. Rosaline Hill, a member of St. Alban’s Anglican Church, hopes to build a residence containing 20-30 units in the nation’s capital, according to Crosstalk, the newspaper of the diocese of Ottawa. The development would be based on the idea of “co-housing”—the formation of communities organized by a group of like- minded people.

Americans Are Embracing Bad Government Because They Don't Know History
Thomas Jefferson wrote, “History, in general, only informs us what bad government is.” Is it possible that our nation is in its current state because recent generations have not learned the lessons which past empires and nations teach us through the history books?

DNC’s ‘Honest Mistake’ Defense of Dumping Sewage Hasn’t Worked for Average Americans
Someone aboard a bus chartered by the Democratic National Committee, which depicted the Democratic presidential and vice presidential candidates, reportedly dumped sewage into a storm drain in Lawrenceville, Georgia. A DNC spokesperson described the sewage dump as “an honest mistake,” but it is actually a crime, and individuals have been criminally prosecuted for similar “honest mistakes” in the past. Federal Courts have held that the Clean Water Act applies to "anyone who discharges pollutants into the waters of the United States.”

Stop the Cheese Bailouts
The USDA recently purchased $20 million worth of cheese to reduce the cheese supply and drive up allegedly low milk prices. That's not their job. Protecting producers from low prices is simply bad policy.

Attitudes on FGM Are Shifting in the Right Direction
In parts of the world, women do not enjoy even the most basic of rights—let alone a shot at political leadership and power over their male counterparts. In some Middle Eastern, Central Asian and African countries, women are subjected to "honor killings," sex trafficking and slavery. Female genital mutilation belongs among the most serious violations of women's rights. But there are signs of hope. In Egypt, for example, over 92 percent of women had undergone some form of FGM in 2014. That was lower than 97 percent in 1995, but still shocking. Furthermore, a 2014 survey by the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population has "estimated that 56 percent of girls under 19 [years of age] were expected to undergo it [FGM] in the future." Other major culprits, including Kenya, Chad and Senegal, have seen similar declines in FGM—though the practice remains widespread.

Native Americans condemn the Dakota Pipeline, the law doesn't
To hear environmental activists tell it, the Dakota Access Pipeline Project has run roughshod over Native American rights, heritage — and objections. But to hear the federal judge presiding over the case tell it, the company building the pipeline and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have been both diligent and respectful in their efforts to address Native American concerns.
