Here’s How to Send a Message to Big Pharma
by Bernie Sanders: During this election season, Californians have been relentlessly carpet-bombed by TV ads paid for by three dozen super-rich drug companies to defeat Proposition 61. The drug industry has raised an obscene amount – at least $109 million – to fight Prop. 61, the biggest war chest ever amassed in a ballot measure battle in California’s history. The nation is watching California. When Prop. 61 passes, I predict the revolution against drug industry price-gouging will sweep across the country like a prairie fire.

A Colorado Ballot Measure Could Make it Nearly Impossible to Ban Fracking

The Colorado oil and gas industry is poised to strike a devastating blow against anti-fracking activists Tuesday. Enactment of Amendment 71, a statewide ballot initiative campaign that’s backed by the industry, will make it, in the words of the Denver Post’s editorial board, “nearly impossible” for Colorado voters to amend their state constitution to allow for local fracking bans — or, for that matter, anything else.

Martin Heidegger: Philosopher of Nazism and Other Collectivist Cults
Martin Heidegger is widely considered to be one of the most influential and least understood thinkers of the twentieth century. The idea of authenticity he promoted is another key idea deployed by anti-libertarian movements, and the wave of political correctness derives from one of his most famous students.

Thinking about writing in a candidate? Read this before you do
Washington voters planning to write-in the name of a candidate for president that is not on the ballot may never see that vote individually counted. However, that does not mean votes would be immediately dismissed. Write-in votes are collected and would be individually counted if there are enough write-in votes are cast to potentially change the outcome of the race, according to the Secretary of State's Office.

CATHOLIC RENEWAL AND CURRY IN ROME
"We can say all the Ave Marias we want, bow before the Blessed Sacrament all the live long day, and share photos of beautiful churches and vestments on Instagram to our heart’s delight, but without repentance and the pursuit of a grace-filled righteousness, it ain’t gonna matter. Any “new Oxford Movement” or Catholic renewal must remember this gift of the tradition." Should Presiding Bishop Curry have been in Rome? And what does renewal look like?

The Democracy of the Marketplace
The word democracy is conspicuously absent in the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights. The framers feared it, and so limited federal power with checks and balances. Yet in a real sense the Founding Fathers did provide democracy, a lot of it, but in the voluntary private sector. They left the vast bulk of the people's business to the people themselves. As a young Alexis de Tocqueville found in his 1831–32 tour here, virtually the entire economy thrived in a free, lively, fast-growing private sector that he included under the category of "democracy."
