Ben Carson Edging Close to Front-Runner Trump in Latest Iowa Poll
The latest Bloomberg Politics/Des Moines Register Iowa Poll shows billionaire Trump with the support of 23 percent of likely Republican caucus participants, followed by Carson at 18 percent. When first and second choices are combined, Carson is tied with Trump. Christian conservatives, who represent nearly 40 percent of likely caucus participants in the poll, may be starting to coalesce around the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins.

Emergency closure of Idaho public lands starting Sunday
Public lands north of Interstate 90, south of Bunco Road (also known as Forest Service Road 332), east of U.S. Highway 95 and west of the Idaho/Montana border will be under a temporary emergency closure due to wildfires. Private property within the closure area is not being evacuated. However, people who want to access their homes or properties within the closure area must have credentials for getting through fire barricades.

A Congo-born nurse was laid to rest in a quiet corner of Belgium on Saturday, surrounded by emissaries from the King and the United States, politicians and a military honor guard. Augusta Chiwy – Belgium's "forgotten angel" – was buried at Bastogne, the scene of one of the most ferocious battles of World War II where at great personal risk she helped save countless American lives.

Texas sheriff’s office identifies defendant in deputy’s ‘execution-style killing’
A man arrested Saturday in the shooting death of a sheriff’s deputy at a Houston gas station Friday has been charged with capital murder. Shannon J. Miles, 30, was picked up for questioning early Saturday. The suspect apparently targeted sheriff’s Deputy Darren Goforth only because of his uniform.

Number of homes lost in wildfires now 163
As surveys of burned areas continue in Okanogan County, the numbers of lost structures has jumped to 195. That includes 123 single-family residences and 72 outbuildings and other structures. The number of homes lost in Chelan County remains at 40. No structures had been lost in the North Star Fire burning on the Colville Indian Reservation as of Saturday morning.
