In 2019, my then-fiancée and I met with our priest during the premarital counselling process. One of his questions was whether we wanted children. We said we did. That was good, he replied. If we didn’t, he would refuse to marry us. Although he would make exceptions for marriages beset by genetic, medical, or mental health issues, he flatly declared that DINK (Dual Income No Kids) couples were going against God’s design for marriage. I was shocked. I would have expected such a position from a Catholic priest, but our priest is Anglican. Besides, some people just don’t want kids, I reasoned, and that’s their decision to make. Or is it? To answer that question, we must first ask two others: “What is marriage for?” and “What is sex for?”

With the Trump administration moving quickly to make mass detention and deportation of immigrants its core domestic policy — in ways that many critics and legal scholars say violate constitutional due process rights — many cities across the country have been left scrambling. Whether it’s dealing with the aftermath of sudden mass raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or learning that large properties are being rented with little notice to serve as immigration detention centers, communities have often been left trying to figure out what to do after instances of federal overreach. In an attempt to be more proactive and set up some guardrails ahead of any potential incidents, the Spokane City Council passed two immigration enforcement-related measures at its March 2 meeting.

Breakaway Anglican group to pick alternative leader to Archbishop of Canterbury

Conservative leaders will discuss a plan that could result in a historic split

A significant schism within the Anglican Communion is set to deepen this week as a coalition of conservative churches convenes in Nigeria to elect a leader intended to rival the Archbishop of Canterbury. This unprecedented move is poised to exacerbate a widening theological split within the global church. The Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON), comprising conservative churches predominantly from Africa and Asia, staunchly opposes what it views as liberal shifts within the Communion. These include the ordination of women and greater inclusion of LGBTQ+ members. The group announced its Global Primates Council would elect a chairman, to be revealed on Thursday, "to serve as primus inter pares (first among equals) to replace the role traditionally held by the Archbishop of Canterbury". Formed in 2008, GAFCON asserts it now represents a majority of the world's practising Anglicans. The wider Anglican Communion consists of 46 autonomous churches, with the Church of England historically recognised as its "mother church".

The 20th and 21st Century Church has entered a new age of Church splits and separations. Separation and schism have been with the Church since the beginning and nearly every party acknowledges that schism (however they define that term) is sinful. On this point the Bible is clear. Yet on the other hand the Bible also commands separations from certain groups of evildoers. (Eph. 5:11, 2 Cor. 6:14-15) How do we reconcile these two commands?
