Tim Conway, Cleveland legend and six-time Emmy winner, battling dementia
Sad news that was a closely guarded secret among comedian Tim Conway's friends and family for several months rapidly became public knowledge this weekend. The Willoughby native who grew up in Chagrin Falls is battling dementia. Reports of Conway's rapid decline over the last year were confirmed when his daughter Kelly filed documents in Los Angeles, asking to be appointed conservator of her 84-year-old father. Kelly, 56, wants to be put in charge of her father's medical treatments, according to the court documents obtained late Friday by several news outlets.

A ruined eighth-century abbey, a beautiful Serbian Orthodox church and a castle which inspired Beatrix Potter are among England's most stunning pieces of history which will throw open their doors for free on two heritage weekends next month
Thousands of England's finest churches, castles, venues and country homes will throw their doors open next month in a rare chance for visitors to enjoy some of the country's hidden heritage.  The Heritage Open Day events, backed by the National Trust, are running over two weekends for the first time this year, on September 6-9 and 13-16. Museums, cinemas, theatres and galleries will be opening up areas not normally open to the public, with many of the historic sites putting on special tours and activities - which are all free - as the heritage festival enters its 24th year.

Ann Coulter Comes Out in Favor of Anti-Discrimination Laws
Ann Coulter once mocked Ron Paul for his call that the government get out of marriage. Coulter demanded that governments regulate marriage because, well, people would have too much freedom otherwise. That was just one of many times that Ann Coulter's knee-jerk preference for government controls and government intervention became apparent. Consistency has never been her strong suit. Now, Coulter wants the government to regulate social media platforms to make sure anyone who wants to use the platforms can do so.

The Pundits Still Don’t Understand Venezuela
International analysts are not giving us the full story on Venezuela. Political commentators have given their spin on the topic of Venezuela’s economic crisis. To their credit, some of them get the surface level details correct on the contributing factors to Venezuela’s collapse — destruction of civil liberties and property rights. However, the mentions of Hugo Chávez’s nationalizations of oil fields while correct, miss a key historical component — Venezuela had a nationalized oil industry before Chávez came into power. Venezuela’s oil industry was nationalized during 1976 under the auspices of then President Carlos Andrés Pérez. Chávez only expanded upon the previous interventionist projects that were laid out well before coming into power.

Elizabeth Warren Wants Even More Crony Capitalism
While she may claim to protect consumers in one moment, US Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) unapologetically endorses destructive, socialist measures in the next. In a new Senate bill, Warren introduced the “Accountable Capitalism Act,”  which seeks to establish an “Office of United States Corporations,” which would be a federal board created for the task of issuing (or not issuing) charters to wealthy corporations, body corporates, body politics, joint-stock companies, or limited liability companies (hereafter referred to solely as “corporations”). These charters would be required of corporate firms with “more than $1,000,000,000 in gross receipts” to operate; without one, they would not fit the legal definition of corporation. Corporate charters would not be given out indiscriminately to firms that required them, for this would be redundant and result in little social change. Rather, Warren’s grand plan to “save” capitalism is to use these charters to destroy the profit motive, ultimately gutting the market of one of its most essential mechanisms.

Sue Lani Madsen: Log it, graze it or watch it burn
This year, 337,948 acres have been burned to date in Idaho, Washington and Montana, according to the National Interagency Fire Service update Friday. That is 10 percent the size of the Big Burn, but we’re sure this “new normal” is a sign of anthropogenic climate change and the end of the world as we know it. Before European contact, North Americans had only fire as a tool for forest management. Immigrants brought domesticated animals, but disrupted the pattern of regular small fires. Then new technology brought timber harvest and modern forestry practices. The catch phrase “Log It, Graze It, or Watch It Burn” isn’t a threat, it’s a summary of the three management tools available for healthy forests. We aren’t using the tools effectively.

US Politicians From Carter to Trump React to Death of Senator McCain
Colleagues and politicians mourn John McCain, who passed away on Saturday after a year-long battle against an aggressive form of brain cancer. Arizona Republican Party Senator and former presidential nominee John McCain was an eminent figure whose death resonated with US political figures. Senator Lindsey Graham, whom The Hill called the closest friend of the deceased politician, said that he had lost his dearest friend and mentor, minutes after McCain’s family released the statement, saying that the entire McCain family "are in his prayers."
