The Warlock Hunt
The #MeToo moment has now morphed into a moral panic that poses as much danger to women as it does to men.

The entire episode of this morning’s Today Programme on BBC Radio Four, Britain’s flagship national radio news breakfast programme, has been broadcast live from Lambeth Palace, which has been the London home and office of Archbishops of Canterbury for nearly 800 years. And Archbishop Justin Welby used an interview in the 8.10am slot, usually reserved for the key political interview of the day, to say that the Church of England “is very confident in its faith”.

When East Meets West
A response to Bradley Nassif's suggestions for Protestant and Orthodox communion.
Prospects for church fellowship between the Orthodox Church and churches with roots in the 16th century Reformation have been and continue to be distant at best. This is not a reason to despair. This makes dialogue, official or unofficial, all the more important, not least as a repentant and hopeful protest against divisions which we know are contrary to Christ’s will.

John Stossel Explains Why 'I Hate The New York Times'
John Stossel of Fox News penned a column titled “I Hate The New York Times.” Stossel says he reads the Times because "my neighbors read it, and I need to understand what they think. Sadly, many think dumb things because most every day the Times runs deceitful, biased stories and headlines that mislead."

Obama Warns Trump Will Lead America to Genocide Like Hitler, Media Yawn
In a friendly interview with CBS News financial analyst Mellody Hobson, President Obama suggested we could have an American genocide akin to what happened in Nazi Germany with Donald Trump as President. The former president was speaking to the Economic Club of Chicago when he made the caustic remark, in comments captured by Crain’s Chicago Business political columnist Greg Hinz. According to Hinz, Obama warned Trump’s “nativism” and distrust of the press would cause our “democracy to fall apart quickly.” Obama then made the connection between Trump and Hitler, warning “60 million people died,” when the world got “complacent.”

WALSH: The Gay Lobby Is Fighting For Special Rights, Not Equal Rights
I have heard over and over again that the gay couple in the Masterpiece Cakeshop case are fighting for their “rights.” Curiously, nobody has been able to explain which rights, exactly.

Young People Don’t Want To Be Called ‘Snowflakes’ Because It Damages Their Mental Health
From "trigger warnings," to "safe spaces," to "cry-ins," the millennial generation has rightly earned the disparaging label of "snowflakes." But instead of shrugging off the moniker (or, better yet, proving it incorrect), young people, in true snowflake fashion, are whining about the term and its supposed effects on their mental health.

The US Needs a Freedom Revival
It’s so easy to celebrate our “freedoms” with song singing, national holidays, and the obligatory pledging of allegiance to the flag. Don’t get me wrong; I’m happy to say the United States remains one of the freest places in the world to this day. Indeed, the United States has accomplished many great things as a nation. I’m happy to be an American who proudly celebrates my service in the United States Marine Corps. That said, we can and need to do much better.  Slowly and subconsciously, people are re-adopting the libertarian concepts that made the US great in the first place.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince is Consolidating his Power
Saudi Arabia needs to start to work for a living. But it can’t do that without a market-based economy, and corruption is the enemy of business opportunity. Under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia has launched a crackdown on corruption. Much the same is true in China. In 2012, newly elevated Chinese President Xi Jinping launched an anti-corruption campaign. The Saudis are buying their own insurance policy by centralizing power so their regime can build a domestic base for a regional war.

Congress’ Immigration Procrastination Is Harmful
President Trump and countless Republicans ran on fixing our immigration system. President Trump is wisely winding down the unconstitutional executive amnesty program DACA. It’s time for Congress to go back to work.

It’s Time To Change America’s Alliance Approach In Asia
Last week marks the 63rd anniversary of the signing of the Mutual Defense Treaty between the United States of America and the Republic of China. The historic mutual defense treaty, signed on December 2, 1954, in Washington, provided an ironclad guarantee to keep Taiwan from being invaded by the People’s Republic of China between 1955 and 1979.

The Shocking Sexism of Central Planning
The 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution has brought with it much whitewashing of history. Perhaps the most absurd example of this whitewashing is a New York Times piece claiming that women in the Communist bloc “enjoyed many rights and privileges unknown in liberal democracies at the time.” The reality of centrally planned economics is shockingly sexist, no matter how much lip service was paid to gender equality. When there is no market incentive to fulfill human needs, it is women’s needs that are forgotten first. Communist factories failed to manufacture even the most basic items for women.

Anti-sacramentalism and history’s verdict
This is the final part of a paper delivered at the conference “Anglo-Catholicism: Uncovering Roots,” Church of the Advent, Boston, November 15-16. I have argued that the leaders of the Oxford Movement put forward a radical and all-embracing view of the Incarnation. According to this view, belief in the Incarnation was tied up with an understanding of the way in which the Son of God takes flesh in the Church, a way of understanding the sacraments, and a way of reading the created world. This sacramental or incarnational worldview was also, for them, tied up with a sacramental approach to reading the Bible. One of the founding principles of Anglo-Catholicism is not just a high view of the sacraments or the Church, but a particular way of reading the Bible.

Leadership at the crossroads
At Church Divinity School of the Pacific, our mission statement calls for forming “visionary spiritual leaders who embrace God’s mission and serve a changing world.” Imagining what tomorrow’s Church might be, identifying the type of leadership this calls out in us, and determining how to support and guide its development are the tasks of theological education today. One thing is certain: we cannot afford to prepare leaders to play it safe in the sedilia. We need leaders willing to take the risk of finding out what the gospel calls us to in new and unfamiliar places.

St. Nicholas: A Living Rule of Faith
“God is wonderful in His saints, the God of Israel!” As we well know, Saint Nicholas was a bishop who served in Asia Minor in the opening decades of the fourth century.  As a hierarch of the Church, he was a man who had authority, meaning that he was someone to be respected and obeyed.  This has been a characteristic of the Church’s hierarchy “from the beginning,” as we hear in the Epistle reading appointed for the feasts of Saint Nicholas and other great hierarchs of the Church:  “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as men who will have to give account” [Hebrews 13:17].  This sacramental, pastoral and administrative authority of the episcopos (bishop) was further strengthened by the Apostolic Father, Saint Ignatius of Antioch, writing in the early second century: “Let no one do anything that pertains to the Church apart from the bishop.  Let that be considered a valid Eucharist which is under the bishop or one whom he has delegated.  Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the people be; just as wherever Christ Jesus may be, there is the catholic Church” [To the Smyrnaens, 8].

I Hate The New York Times
John Stossel: My hometown paper drives me crazy. I read The New York Times because it often has good coverage. The newspaper pays to send reporters to dangerous places all around the world. This weekend, the Times Magazine did a surprisingly fair profile of Sean Hannity, although they chose photos that make him look evil. But mostly I read the Times because my neighbors read it, and I need to understand what they think. Sadly, many think dumb things because most every day the Times runs deceitful, biased stories and headlines that mislead.

The Real Face of Santa Claus
When you were a child, how badly did you want to sneak downstairs on Christmas Eve and see what Santa really looked like? You probably imagined him with a big white beard, jolly belly, red cheeks, and fur lined coat. But according to scientific analysis and computer models, Saint Nicholas, the 4th century Bishop of Myra who Santa Claus is based on, would have looked a bit different than the Nordic woodsman of popular culture and more like a 4th century Byzantine Bishop.
