US quietly sanctions China over North Korean missile launchers
This October, the US government for the first time imposed economic sanctions on a Chinese company for providing vehicles used to transfer North Korea’s road-mobile nuclear missiles. The Treasury Department’s little noticed October 13 announcement of sanctions on the Wuhan Sanjiang Import and Export Co. Ltd., focused on the company’s sale of equipment to Iran, however. It only mentions the launcher transfers in passing – a symptom of Washington’s aversion to calling out Beijing on its covert support for the regime in North Korea.

Media Slammed For Burying Kevin Spacey Allegations in 'Coming Out' Story
What’s a more important story: an actor most people suspected to gay coming out and confirming it, or an accusation of pedophilic harassment aimed at the same actor? Actor Anthony Rapp, in an interview with BuzzFeed on October 29, accused actor Kevin Spacey of making sexual advances on Rapp when he was 14 and Spacey was 26. Spacey tweeted an apology, but came out as gay in his apology. ABC, Reuters, and the New York Daily News first reported the story as “Kevin Spacey Comes Out in Emotional Tweet.”

Paul Manafort's Indictment Has Nothing To Do With the Trump Campaign
The Trump-Russia investigation is heating up! At least, that’s what the left would like you to believe. Last Friday, former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and fellow campaign official Rick Gates were indicted by Justice Department on 12 charges, including money laundering and conspiracy against the United States. Although Manafort and Gates face serious charges, the charges are reported to have nothing to do with  the Trump presidential campaign. Instead, the charges, lead by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, deal with Manafort and Gates’ past lobbying efforts in Ukraine, where Manafort reportedly laundered some $18 million beginning in the mid-2000’s while working with the now-ousted Ukrainian President Viktor F. Yanukovych.

JUST IN: Court Blocks Trump’s Military Transgender Ban
A federal court has temporarily blocked President Donald Trump's United States military transgender policy announced in July, says a report from The Hill. The block comes "as a case against his ban works its way through court": A judge in the U.S. district court for D.C. ruled Monday that Trump's directive changing the transgender policy back to what it was before June 2016 and banning new transgender recruits from enlisting cannot be enforced while the case is being reviewed in court. The judge also blocked the Trump Administration's move to ban taxpayer-funded gender reassignment surgeries. Trump made his bold announcement to reverse the Obama Administration transgender directive on July 26, unsurprisingly, via Twitter.

Ex-Catalan leader in mystery Brussels trip
The Catalan crisis took a bizarre twist on Monday (29 October), when the dismissed region's leader went to Brussels in what was described as an attempt to look for political asylum. Carles Puigdemont flew to Belgium's capital with five former members of the region's government, in order to meet politicians from the Flemish nationalist N-VA party.

Spanish prosecutor charges Catalan leaders
Spain's general prosecutor Jose Manuel Maza on Monday charged Catalan leaders with rebellion, sedition and embezzlement. People under investigation include former president of the Catalan government Carles Puigdemont and the members of his government, as well as Catalan Parliament speaker Carme Forcadell and other leaders of the assembly. They are charged over Catalonia's unilateral declaration of independence adopted by the region's parliament on Friday (27 October).

Catalan separatists accept Spanish measures
Only one member of the Catalan government went to work on Monday, after the Spanish government suspended the region's autonomy. Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont did not appear publicly. Parliament speaker Carme Forcadell cancelled the session planned for Tuesday, because the assembly "has been dissolved", parliament sources told media.

Spain 'takes back control' of Catalan government
Three days after Catalonia's unrecognised declaration of independence, the Spanish government will on Monday (30 October) start to take control of the region's administration. On Saturday, the Spanish official bulletin published the decrees to apply article 155 of the constitution and suspend Catalonia's independence. The president of the Catalan government Carles Puigdemont was dismissed and replaced by the Spanish deputy prime minister Soraya Saenz de Santamaria.

ROY MOORE’S RIDICULOUS DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE
Roy Moore, former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, was right to invoke Dred Scott when opposing Obergefell v. Hodges. The “Obergefell” decision is indeed more radical than “Dred Scott”—though you will be attacked for saying so.

Why Adding a New Top Income Tax Rate Is a Bad Idea
One of the most critical ingredients in “pro-growth” tax reform is lowering tax rates for everyone. The top marginal rate disproportionately reduces the return that college students receive on their education. Without lowering the top marginal income tax rate, tax reform will fall short of producing the kind of explosive growth that we all want to see.

Don’t Even Think About It
A Boise State University professor’s recent essay exploring the intellectual history of the meaning of gender has roiled the campus. Yenor’s essay is an intellectual history, not a diatribe. He concludes that the objective of transgender theory is to stop treating “gender dysphoria” in children as “a pathological syndrome requiring counseling and preventive parenting.

The Senate Voted to Protect Banks, but It’s Actually a Win For You
The Senate exercised its power under the Congressional Review Act to repeal Dodd-Frank’s controversial arbitration rule. Signing an agreement with a mandatory arbitration clause limits a consumer’s ability to take a bank to court to resolve certain disputes. For consumers, arbitration is more cost-effective than using the courts.

Things Are Looking Up by Any Measure
Rising income is only one way to measure the improving state of humanity – let’s not forget the other indicators. In a recent piece for CapX, my colleague Chelsea Follett wrote about the declining rates of absolute poverty. This data is, indeed, encouraging, but rising income is only one way to measure the improving state of humanity –  let’s not forget the other indicators. Because when it comes to nutrition, life expectancy, infant and child mortality rates, and education, great progress is being made throughout the world. That is especially true of poor countries. In sub-Saharan Africa, absolute improvements in human well-being are taking place, while the quality-of-life gap with the rest of the world is also being narrowed.

Why Globalism is Doomed

Globalization is ebbing while economic and political populism is surging. Like the 19th century version of populism that rallied against the gold standard, today’s economic populism is similarly anti-establishment, anti-elitist, and opposed to all forms of globalization and globalist governance.

A Conservative MP is to propose a statute of limitations on the criminal prosecution of former British soldiers in Belfast - a potentially problematic proposal, given how long it has typically taken for such abuses to be jurisprudentially proven.
