Scots dialects 'as good as a second language'
Do you speak Dundonian? Have you sometimes felt the rest of Scotland doesn't understand you. Researchers at Abertay University in Dundee have good news for you. Being fluent in both your dialect and standard English is as good as speaking two different languages. That is when it comes to how your brain handles them. They have found that the brains of people who are equally fluent in two dialects work in the same way as those who speak two languages.

This is the 5th post in a series titled “In Defense of.” Baptismal regeneration is the process through which the Holy Spirit makes the recipient of the sacrament of baptism a new creation by forming a covenant. whereby . This is different from conversion, where someone repents of their sins and has faith in God (i.e. the thief on the cross next to Jesus). For someone like me, who was raised in Baptist and non-denominational traditions, this idea was always rejected prima facie because baptism constituted merely a public pronouncement of regeneration that had already occurred. However, further investigation of Scripture and the traditions of the Church show the validity of a sacramental position favoring baptismal regeneration.

Trump Blasts Bergdahl Decision: 'A Complete And Total Disgrace To Our Country And To Our Military'
On Friday, President Trump responded to the farcical decision from Col. Jeffrey Nance in which he let Bowe Bergdahl, who deserted his post in Afghanistan, triggering a search for him that apparently led to the deaths of six Americans, go free without serving any prison time.

OUTRAGEOUS: Deserter Bergdahl Gets NO PRISON TIME, Judge Cited Trump's Comments As 'Mitigation Evidence'
On Friday, traitorous Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who left his post and wandered into Taliban territory, only to be taken prisoner and held for years, then exchanged for Taliban terrorists by President Obama, received no prison time. That freedom came despite the fact that Bergdahl’s desertion apparently led to the deaths of six Americans who went searching for him. The judge did give Bergdahl a dishonorable discharge, and reduced him to private while giving him a $10,000 fine. Bergdahl had already pled guilty to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, and could have gone to prison for life.

WALSH: We Aren't Sliding Down A 'Slippery Slope.' Our Culture Is Already At The Bottom.
Many people were rightly horrified this week as Cosmo set out to romanticize incest. The article, "This Is What It's Like To Fall In Love With Your Brother," was originally published a little while ago but got renewed attention over the past few days when Cosmo tweeted it. If love is love, why are we still acting like we have a problem with incest or polygamy? Once we accept the "love is love" argument, we lose the ability to redraw the line anywhere.

SHOCK REPORT: Obama Hid 470,000 Documents From Bin Laden Raid To Ensure His Reelection
In a powerful and comprehensive piece in The Weekly Standard, editor Stephen Hayes delineates in detail how the Obama Administration hid almost half a million documents seized from the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound in order to perpetuate the lie that Al Qaeda was defeated after bin Laden’s death, thus paving the way for Obama’s 2012 victory.

In Asia, Donald Trump must act as US explainer-in-chief

The stakes are high for Donald Trump's first Asia trip. He needs to convey to US allies why his "America First" policy is not akin to disengagement and what his plans are on North Korea. He leaves with heavy baggage.

The Research Proves The No. 1 Social Justice Imperative Is Marriage
Just 70 years ago, social mobility and protection from poverty were largely a factor of employment. Those who had full-time work of any kind were seldom poor. Fifty years ago, education marked the gulf separating the haves from the have-nots. For the last 20 years or more, though, marital status has increasingly become the central factor in whether our neighbors and their children rise above, remain, or descend into poverty.

Is the Intentional Flooding of Homes a Government Taking?
It is pretty obvious that the flooding of numerous homes and businesses was a “foreseeable result” of the government’s action. In the wake of massive flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey, the US Army Corps of Engineers sought to limit the damage by engaging in additional “controlled release” flooding of its own in order to reduce pressure on two water reservoirs in the area and stop them from potentially overflowing. Unfortunately, the “controlled” flooding inflicted extensive damage on thousands of homes and businesses that might otherwise have been spared the effects of the storm. Numerous owners have filed lawsuits in the US Court of Federal Claims, arguing that the deliberate flooding of their property constitutes a “taking” of their property, for which the government must pay “just compensation,” as required by the Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment:

Scurrilous manuscript that could have undone John Donne discovered
Ostensibly a library catalogue in Latin, poet’s early work is in fact a string of smutty jokes about contemporary figures. A manuscript of an early work by John Donne, a scurrilous academic joke that could have cost the poet his reputation – and maybe his head – if it had fallen into the wrong hands, has been discovered in a trunk in the archives of Westminster Abbey. The manuscript may be the earliest surviving copy of what is ostensibly a library catalogue in Latin: the numbered book titles are all invented, and Donne’s list is in fact a string of savage and frequently smutty jokes, many about named contemporary figures.

Tax Reform Bill Moves Closer to Free-Market Energy Policy
Eliminating the preferential treatment in the tax code would drive energy innovation, competition, and job creation, resulting in a healthier, robust energy sector that isn’t dependent on Washington.

Congress Needs to Chill Out. Those Russian Facebook Ads Didn’t Swing the Election.
We need more transparency, not more regulation. Lawmakers hold a series of hearings exploring Russia’s role in the 2016 election. The market, not government, has already prompted these companies to revise their practices. Congress, for all its good intentions, shouldn’t get carried away and impose government restrictions on political speech.

Senate Confirms 5 Trump Judicial Nominees in Strong Week for Rule of Law
The confirmations this week are a cause for celebration and a positive development for the rule of law. Trump is well on his way to securing a generation of judges on par with those of the Reagan Revolution.

Agreeing on the Holy Spirit
Theologians from the Anglican Communion and Oriental Orthodox Churches have signed a historic agreement on the Holy Spirit. The theologians signed their agreed statement, On the Procession and Work of the Holy Spirit [PDF], Oct. 26 at the end of a week of discussions by the Anglican Oriental-Orthodox International Commission (AOOIC). The statement concludes two years of work on the subject. In their 2015 meeting in Wales, AOOIC members discussed the “procession” of the Holy Spirit, and agreed on omitting the Filioque clause.

Mainstream Economists Don’t Even Get Their Dimensions Right
Economists often discuss capital & interest, assuming that “interest equals the marginal product of capital” when in fact that is simply wrong. There are many differences between Austrian economics and the neoclassical mainstream, but one of the most critical involves the difficult field of “capital & interest theory.” This area has been dubbed the “black hole of economics” because it can devour researchers, but in the present post I can use a recent Paul Krugman blog entry to graphically illustrate the Austrian viewpoint. Specifically, Krugman’s diagram doesn’t even get the dimensions right!

Yellen’s Poor Legacy — and Powell’s Challenges
The appointment of Jerome Powell as the new chair of the Federal Reserve must be interpreted by the markets as a sign of continuity. He is not the hawk that many market participants feared and neither holds a dovish and dangerous stance.

Obama Admin Lied; New Memos Reveal Uranium One Exports To "Europe And Asia" Via Canada
As the mainstream media continues to obsess over $100,000 worth Facebook ads allegedly purchased by Russian spies in 2016 seeking to throw the presidential election, behind the scenes, far removed from the sight of CNN and MSNBC, the Uranium One scandal, in which the Obama administration approved a deal that handed a Russian-controlled corporation 20% of America's uranium reserves despite the existence of an FBI investigation into ongoing illegal bribery, extortion and money laundering schemes, is slowly spiraling out of control...despite CNN's continued ignorance of the topic.
