Trump Signs Russia Sanctions Bill, But Lays Out His Concerns About the Law
President Donald Trump signed a Russia sanctions bill Congress forced on him, adding a statement saying the administration will carry out the law but with reservations about its impact and the constitutionality of some provisions. In a statement Wednesday accompanying the notice that he signed into law the legislation, which also targets Iran and North Korea, Trump laid out a list of concerns. He said it encroaches on presidential authority, may hurt U.S. ability to work with allies and could have unintended consequences for American companies. “While I favor tough measures to punish and deter aggressive and destabilizing behavior by Iran, North Korea, and Russia, this legislation is significantly flawed,” the statement released by the White House said.

Bully-Proofing Won't Work Until We Give Kids More Freedom
Imagine if you were constantly harassed, humiliated, and even physically attacked at your workplace. You could talk to your boss or someone in HR to fix the problem. You could file charges if you were physically harmed, or take out a restraining order against your perpetrators. You could also quit. You have recourse. You have options. You have choices that children who are bullied in school don't have.

The Brooding Baron of 20th-Century Fascism
Benito Mussolini as well as many Nazi party officials – even the Fuhrer himself – were taken in by the monocle-wearing Baron Giulio Cesare Andrea Evola's strange brew of dialectical apocalypticism, violent misogyny, Jew hating, and longing for global war to restore the golden age of the warrior class.

5-Year-Old Fined $200 for Selling Lemonade
My daughter burst into tears, repeating again and again 'have I done a bad thing'?" I can’t imagine a worse introduction to entrepreneurship than that experienced by this little girl, in which four uniformed men arrive, shut you down, and fine you an amount of money larger than you can comprehend.

Socialism Has Destroyed Venezuela
Friedrich Hayek famously observed that socialist central planning puts countries on the road to serfdom. The latest dead end on that highway to hell—already littered with the human victims of past failed attempts in places like Cuba and the old Soviet Union—is in Caracas, Venezuela. That is where, last weekend, President Nicolás Maduro and the thousands of Cuban communists who actually run his government took the final step to squash the rights of individual Venezuelan citizens and impose an authoritarian dictatorship.

THE MEDIUM AND THE MESSAGE
"The separation of form and content is fatal for preaching, for it fails to recognize the theology implicit in the method of communication.” The form of a sermon is not secondary to the content in terms of interpretation. The assumption that we can separate form and content implies a hermeneutic in which the reader/preacher is able to engage with the text in an objective, neutral manner. This approach to preaching appeals to our post-Enlightenment sensibilities because it puts us in a position of discernment (or authority) over the text. Yet when preachers consistently work with the same basic form to their sermons, it inevitably shapes their reading or studying of the text because it shapes the questions with which they approach the text.

“WE HAVE TO FIND THE TREASURE HIDDEN IN EVERY HEART”
Archbishop Sergiy (Korolev) on spiritual life in the world
For many he was more well known as Sergius of Prague. Vladyka Sergius (Korelev), Archbishop of Kazan and Chistopol, spiritually cared for the Russian emigrants in Czechoslovakia during difficult times for Russia. He spent twenty-four years of his life in Prague, and served as hierarch in countries of Western and Eastern Europe. The archbishop’s ascetic labors also have great significance for us today.

State Supreme Court rules The Episcopal Church can reclaim 29 properties from breakaway parishes
In a highly anticipated ruling, the state Supreme Court decided Wednesday that 29 parishes whose congregations left The Episcopal Church in 2012 can't take their valuable properties with them, a decision that could set the stage for a massive exchange of historic church capital in the region. However, seven parishes and a land trust that left can hold on to their properties because they never agreed in writing to let the national church hold them in trust, unlike the others, a majority of justices ruled.
