ON BEING ANNOYED
A life that persists in annoyance is a pitiful (or “grumpy”) one. It first cheapens true injustice in the world, opting instead to be upset at the meaningless. It second denies the humanity in others, as we define ourselves as being the ideal. Third and finally, it denies the interdependence of creation, seeing difference and distinction as an inherent negative. When one lives a life of following Christ, by contrast, one learns to see the true humanity of each other, the beauty of one’s difference from your neighbor. This vision of finding beauty in the other must be accompanied by daily repentance and denial of self, for so easily are we trapped in a “natural” world of being annoyed.

The Ku Klux Klan opens its door to Jews, homosexuals and black people in bizarre recruitment drive
The Ku Klux Klan is looking to diversify and increase its membership to include Jews, black people, homosexuals and those of Hispanic origin with a re-branding as 'the new Klan'. All those wanting to join the extreme right-wing group will still have to wear the white robes, masks and conical hats and take part in rituals, according to founder John Abarr. The rebranded organisation, called the Rocky Mountain Knights, claims to now stand for 'a strong America' rather than irrational hatred. 'White supremacy is the old Klan. This is the new Klan. The KKK is for a strong America.'

State lawmakers want pay raise on current $79,500 salary: 'It's long overdue'
A source close to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver said the powerful Manhattan Democrat has long supported a legislative pay raise, noting many lawmakers have no other income — but there have been no high-level talks on the issue. Gov. Cuomo would have to sign off on a pay hike, and would likely want something in exchange.

Cynthia and Robert Gifford are caught in a same-sex nightmare. They’ve been forced to defend themselves against claims that they’re lesbian-hating homophobes. The Giffords, who own the bucolic Liberty Ridge Farm in upstate New York, were ordered to pay a total of $13,000 — a $10,000 fine to the state and another $1,500 to each member of a lesbian couple to compensate them for “mental anguish.’’ All because the Giffords, devout Christians, refused to hold a same-sex wedding ceremony on the property on which they live, work and have raised a daughter, 17, and a son, 21.
