Human brain hard-wired for rural tranquillity
Humans may be hard-wired to feel at peace in the countryside and confused in cities – even if they were born and raised in an urban area. According to preliminary results of a study by scientists at Exeter University, an area of the brain associated with being in a calm, meditative state lit up when people were shown pictures of rural settings. But images of urban environments resulted in a significant delay in reaction, before a part of the brain involved in processing visual complexity swung into action as the viewer tried to work out what they were seeing.

Human Rights Day: Action Badly Needed to Stop North Korean Crimes Against Humanity
As the world marks the 20th annual Human Rights day on Dec. 10, a Christian organization has renewed it's call once again for investigation into and action to halt the "crimes against humanity" being perpetrated against the North Korean people. Among the many crimes committed in North Korea is the relentless persecution of Christians, who are seen by the ruling regime as a threat to power. Tens of thousands of Christians are believed to be imprisoned in what can only be described as the closest thing to hell on earth, labor camps were starvation and disease run rampant and death is a constant companion. Christians have also been executed for the "crime" of possessing a Bible, most recently in November.

Christians Call for an End to Pakistan’s Blasphemy Laws
Christian human rights organizations are using Human Rights Day in Pakistan to call for an end to the country's controversial blasphemy laws. There is general agreement in the international human rights community that Pakistan's blasphemy laws are often abused by the Sunni Muslim majority to persecute religious minorities, including Christians. Recently, the Federal Sharia Court ordered that only death sentences were appropriate for punishing blasphemers, taking away the courts ability to punish accused blasphemers with fines and life imprisonment. Please pray for the persecuted of Pakistan.

Colorado Christian Baker Loses in Gay Wedding Case
In what may become a significant case for Christian business owners across the country, a Colorado bakery owner, Jack Philips, has lost his case after being sued for discrimination by a gay couple. Mr. Philips had refused in 2012 to bake a cake for the couples wedding ceremony, saying participation in the event violated his deeply held Christian beliefs. Colorado State law prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation at "public accommodations." The case is just one of several involving Christian owned businesses not wishing to participate in gay weddings.
